About the Tour

The great Torres del Paine National Park, located at the southernmost point of the Andes, in Chilean Patagonia, is considered the Eighth Wonder of the world. In addition, to be the best place on the planet for sighting and photography of one of the big cats, the puma or mountain lion.

Seeing and photographing pumas is one of the most incredible experiences, so we have planned 4 days to look for and photograph them. Also, in the way back to Punta Arenas there will be the opportunity to photograph the wonderful Andean Condor.

Itinerary

This day we will arrive at the city of Punta Arenas, located in the south of Chile. A representative of our team received them at the Presidente Carlos Ibáñez International Airport.

Once we have all the suitcases with us, we will get into our vehicles and go to our hotel in Cerro Castillo town, where it will be our home for the next few days.

Once at the hotel, we will settle in our rooms, and then we will have a welcome dinner to meet the participants, guides, and talk about our briefing of activities for the following days

In the next four days we will leave, very early in the morning, towards a private land in the Torres del Paine National Park to focus exclusively on the photographs of the Puma (puma concolor).

The departure from the hotel will depend on the time of sunrise; the ideal time is to be already in the place 30 minutes before it,  in this way we can also enjoy beautiful sunrises.

Once we find the Puma, we will stay with it, photographing and enjoying this encounter.

We will remain in the reserve as long as possible. Then, after the last flash of light on the horizon, we will return to the hotel to have dinner and rest.

*In addition to the pumas, in the reserve it is possible to photograph guanacos, birds of prey and, of course, amazing landscapes.

After breakfast and with all our suitcases ready, we will get on our cars and head towards to Punta Arenas, to have the last dinner and rest at our hotel.

On the way to Punta Arenas, it is sometimes possible to spot condors, eagles, caracaras, owls, among other species.

After seven fascinating and fun days saved in photographs and memmories it is time to say “see you soon”, because we hope to share a new adventure together.

After a comfortable rest and a delicious breakfast we will go to the Presidente Carlos Ibáñez International Airport.

General tips

For a better experience, it is important to know a couple of factors which will facilitate your stay in Chile:

  • If you’d like to take home a couple of souvenirs, we recommend bringing a little extra cash in order to acquire these at the different locations we will be staying at (Local currency is the Chilean peso) We recommend exchanging around USD 200, or equivalent in your local currency, at the airport. Any other expense we recommend payments by credit card.
  • Sunscreen.
  • Knit cap for cold.
  • Flashlight (preferable headlamp).
  • Cloth bag to wet clothes.
  • Water bottle.
  • Trekking shoes.
  • Very warm clothes

Photographic equipment

As photographers, we know how difficult it is to decide how much equipment to take on trips, as we always want to take all of our equipment with us so that we can take advantage of our experiences. Here is a list of equipment we recommend bringing:

  • Wide angle lens
  • Zoom lens, range 100-600
  • Equipment protector for the rain
  • Tripod
  • Batteries
  • Battery chargers
  • Cleaning equipment
  • Plug adaptor (very important)

Clothing

Patagonia is famous for its variable climate of cold and wind, it is important to wear very warm clothing. On many occasions the weather can be less than 0 degrees.

The rooms will have heaters at all times, and in the car as well.

It is important to bring first and second layer, warm gloves, knit cap, coats for the cold and waterproof jacket.
